SHELTER PROGRAM
Through a partnership with the Parish of St. Mary's/St. Francis de Sales, CHC-Oakland will implement a Winter Shelter Program in December 2002. The shelter program is in response to the increasing number of older youth, who are without stable housing, and will serve 20-25 individuals nightly. Situated in the community center of St. Mary's at 8th and Jefferson, the shelter will operate between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. With the assistance of 200 church volunteers, shelter youth will receive an evening meal, breakfast and crisis intervention and counseling. During the day, youth will be able to access the Community Service Center for assistance with a wide array of services. Covenant House California hopes to develop a permanent crisis shelter and transitional living program in the near future.
